Charles Harvey Mitchell was born in July 1862 in Indiana, near Fort Wayne.  His parents had just recently migrated west from Maryland.

Charles' mother Mary died in 1874 while they were living in Indiana.  In 1875 his father moved the family back to Maryland.  They moved into a house on Caroline Street in Baltimore City.

In 1891 Charles married Mary Snyder (daughter of John Snyder, an immigrant from Germany and a shoemaker in Baltimore City).  They had three children:

1.         Mary Etta - (1893 - 1976)
2.         William Harvey - (1894 - 1977)
3.         Beulah Frances - (1898 - 1996)

Charles worked as a house carpenter in his own contractor business.  The family lived on Eager street from 1900 to 1920.  They moved to Bond Street and then later to Roland Park.
